Jarvis Highway Maintenance

We were approached by Jarvis Highway Maintenance to become the main contractor for a complete rebuild and matching of an existing timber footbridge adjacent to the railway bridge, which spans the river from Chester Golf Club in Curzon Park to New Crane Street.

Jarvis is a leading service provider in the highways market, supporting projects at all stages from initial conception through to maintenance, across the UK and internationally. Highways are of critical importance to the general public and industry alike, with a shared interest in reliable journey times on a well maintained network. Jarvis provides support for a wide range of clients including, government departments, local authorities and major contractors.

We had an in house architect design collaborated with a structural engineer and the complete footbridge manufactured by T. A. Knox Shopfitters. We undertook all civil engineering works and installation including all scaffolding. The works was completed using Columbian pitch pine with        stainless steel fixings. The timber was easy to work with  when using hand or machine tools but they had to be cleaned regularly to remove the build up or resin from the blades caused by the pitch pine.

Despite the extra maintenance of the tools which was required the works was completed on time and within budget and the finished project looked amazing.
